What this calculator does
Enter pixel dimensions or choose an image from your device. The calculator connects the values people usually have to look up separately: aspect ratio, orientation, megapixels, and printable size at common DPI settings.
How image size is calculated
Megapixels = width × height ÷ 1,000,000Print width in inches = pixel width ÷ DPIAspect ratio = width ÷ GCD : height ÷ GCDWorked examples
3600 × 2400 pixels
This is a 3:2, 8.64-megapixel image. At 300 DPI it prints at 12 × 8 inches.
1920 × 1080 pixels
This is a 16:9, 2.07-megapixel image. At 150 DPI it prints at 12.8 × 7.2 inches.
Frequently asked questions
Does choosing an image upload it?
No. The browser reads only the dimensions on your device. The file is not sent to this website or stored on a server.
Does changing DPI change the pixels in my image?
No. DPI changes the calculated physical print size. It does not add or remove pixels unless you resample the image in editing software.
What is a good DPI for printing?
300 DPI is a common high-detail target. 240 or 200 DPI can still look strong, while 150 DPI may be appropriate for larger prints viewed from farther away.
Why might a print shop give a different recommendation?
Printer technology, paper, sharpening, viewing distance, and the image itself all affect perceived quality. This tool provides mathematical conversions, not a guarantee from a specific printer.
